Brinktop Vineyard - Vineyard

Brinktop Vineyard, established 2017 by Todd Goebel and Gill Christian, grows premium Tasmanian grapes and produces small quantities of hand-crafted pinot.

Brinktop Wines is the new venture of Todd Goebel and Gillian Christian established in 2017 after 18 years of developing and running Coal Valley Vineyard. Brinktop Vineyard is located on the eastern side of the Coal River Valley; it is their home, winery and vineyard. Approximately 8 hectares are planted out to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Tempranillo and Shiraz on gentle east north east slopes that avoid harsh westerly sun & winds; and with dolerite soils the site affords perfect vineyard terroir. Brinktop Wines include the premium "Killara" Pinot Noir; Brinktop Pinot Noir and Brinktop Tempranillo. A cellar door is planned for late 2019. Gill and Todd Goebel have been growing grapes and making wine in the Coal River Valley, Tasmania, since 1999. Brinktop is their second venture,  started when they purchased an old farm called Killara located between the village of Richmond and Sorell.
The property was ideal for viticulture. It has a long ridge affording gentle, east-north-east facing slopes and excellent dolerite soils that had been used for sheep grazing for the previous 100 years. Being in the Coal River Valley it is a warmer site but the slopes are cooled each afternoon during the growing season by the sea breezes coming straight off nearby Frederick Henry Bay. Eight hectares are now planted out mainly to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay leaving a hectare each for Tempranillo and Shiraz. Brinktop wine is made by Todd at the onsite winery.
