The Role The Risk and Assurance Specialist is responsible for delivering risk and assurance activities within TasWater. This role ensures the integrity and reliability of TasWater’s internal controls, risk management processes, and governance and compliance programs. Working closely with various internal stakeholders, the Risk and Assurance Specialist evaluates and monitors internal controls, identifies potential areas of risk, and ensures that risk management strategies are effectively implemented and aligned with corporate objectives which includes: Lead and deliver internal risk management and assurance activities to support TasWater’s strategic objectives and risk appetite. Conduct risk assessments to identify potential risks, control weaknesses and improvements Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to foster a risk-aware and drive continuous improvement across all business functions. Assist in the Risk Manager to coordinate and manage internal audits, including tracking of the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely closure Assist the Risk Manager to manage TasWater’s insurance program and any insurance claims process, as required. Prepare reports for the Board, Executive Leadership Team, Senior Management and relevant stakeholders, and assist the Risk Manager in preparation or risk reports to internal and external stakeholders as required. What we're looking for We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Risk and Assurance Specialist who brings strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and a passion for improving organisational performance. The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of risk management, experience conducting assurance activities and risk assessments, with a demonstrated ability to apply these in a practical, business-focused way. We value candidates who are adaptable, and confident in navigating complex environments, and who can communicate technical information in a clear and accessible manner. Demonstrated experience delivering risk and assurance activities, including internal controls, risk management, governance, and compliance frameworks Professional qualifications and substantial and proven experience in internal audit, risk management, or assurance roles, preferably in a regulated industry Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across TasWater to build strong working relationships and achieve shared outcomes Strong capability in coordinating and overseeing internal and external audits, including engaging with stakeholders to address findings and implement improvements Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey risk insights and assurance outcomes to a range of stakeholders
