Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) is a statutory authority that was established on 30 July 1997 to ensure the safe operation of vessels, provide and manage marine facilities and manage environmental issues relating to vessels.
It has a Board of five Directors, four appointed by the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and the Chief Executive. Representation is drawn from the various sectors of the boating community. The Board is responsible to the Minister for the performance by the Authority of its functions and in ensuring that the business and affairs of the Authority are managed and conducted in a manner that is in accordance with sound commercial practice.
